"What's your name, dear?" asked the seemingly sweet lady behind the folding table. Her plastic face looked like it was stuck in a permanent smile...and Siouxsie knew she could do exactly that, but she kept that to herself.
"Uh, Siouxsie." she said, with an uncomfortable grin. She watched as the lady, still freakin' smiling, began to write 'Suzy', and she quickly spoke up.
"No, that's not how you spell it. It's S-i-o-u-x-s-i-e." The lady gave her a bizarre look, and Siouxsie rolled her eyes. "Nevermind. It's just Suzy." The lady nodded and wrote it down the incorrect way, then handed her a wrist band and said "You're number twelve." Siouxsie nodded and pulled the band around her wrist, then looked around.
Teenagers wearing swim suits with surf boards were everywhere. Towels covered in sand lay sprawled about, and friends all talked with eachother, some nervous about the competition. She certainly wasn't, though. This would be the first time in eight months that Siouxsie had the chance to surf. The ocean overwhelmed her. The smell of salt, and the thick air sticking to her skin made her feel incredible. There was no place she felt better than when she was on the beach or slicing waves. It was her life, that is until her parents made her attend Wizarding School. She hadn't really wanted to, she wanted to just live a normal life like everyone else she knew. She wanted to go to regular school, and be able to spend all her time on the beach with regular friends, but now she could only do that during the summer.
And as for the name, Siouxsie was named after a funky 80's band. Sounds crazy, but the story behind that is that her parents met at their concert. Cheesy, right?
"Siouxsie! Over here!!" A few friends called out to her, and she smiled, running over and shoving her board into the sand, taking a seat beside everyone. "You excited?" they asked, and Siouxsie just smiled and tucked a lock of her windblown dark hair behind her ear, and air of confidence in her voice as she laughed out the words "Oh yeah."
